Spring Tasters 7th, 14th + 21st April - Intaglio, Collagraph and Linoprinting - Book individually or all 3
Evening Course, Wednesday 7th, 14th, 21st April, 18:00-20:30, £105 for all 3 or £38 each, All levels
The Spring Taster Series comprises of 3 evening workshops across April exploring various printmaking techniques (read below for more information one each process). This is a good opportunity to try a process out and see if you like it before committing to one of our full day workshops.
You can come to each session individually or come to all three for a crash course in printmaking.
Intaglio Taster #1 - 7th April
For participants to gain a basic understanding and practical knowledge of how to design, carve and print an image using intaglio techniques such as dry point.
Intaglio printing is the opposite of Relief printing (such as lino or potato printing). In relief printing the raised surface gets printed (think potato print). But, with Intaglio the ink is inside the grooves of the plate which you create by drawing into the plate. Those inky grooves are printed as opposed to the raised surface. Confused? Turn your confusion into curiosity and come along.
Collagraph Taster #2 - 14th April
In this workshop we will learn to print from found materials with interesting surfaces and textures such as plants, fabrics and recycled rubbish. A collagraph is a print taken directly from these materials to create diverse, textural images.
All materials will be provided but it would be great if you could collect some materials with interesting surfaces such as leaves, recycled rubbish or fabrics that we can print from. We will, however, have lots available for those who don’t have time to bring their own materials.
We will print using the press as well as using alternative methods of printing that can be used at home too.
Linoprint Taster #3 - 21st April
Learn the basics of lino printing including how to carve a block using specialist tools, inking up and printing your designs using the printing press. We will look at the graphic quality of lino printing experimenting with mark making, composition and ink.
What to bring with you
Clothes you don’t mind getting ink on. Although we will be using water based inks and we have aprons, it’s best to wear clothes that are not precious.
Ideas - Please bring with you an image or art work you would like to use as inspiration. If you don’t bring an idea or inspiration for your print don’t worry because we have lots of inspirational books and ideas we use as tools for developing an image. But as we have a lot to fit in on the day, it can help to bring along a pre conceived image to make into a print.
Feel free to bring snacks - Tea and coffee provided.
Cancellation Policy
If you cancel your booking due to extenuating circumstances we will provide a credit note. To cancel please email us at marketplaceprintstudio@gmail.com. You can only use your credit note to change the date of your workshop once. If you cancel a second time, you will lose your credit note.
We reserve the right to cancel or postpone a workshop. This will occasionally happen if we don’t have enough bookings to run the workshop or in extenuating circumstances. If we do this we will try and give as much notice as possible and will provide a full refund if you cannot attend the new dates.
Please note: The print studio has limited access and etching involves using hazardous chemicals. The print room environment is not suitable for everyone. Etching classes are unsuitable for pregnant or breastfeeding women, those sensitive to chemicals or with breathing difficulties. Contact us if you need more information about the chemicals we use as part of the printing process.
