Spend 5 weeks getting to know all the different processes of Intaglio printmaking from etching, dry point, soft ground, hard ground, aquatint and sugar lift. We will look at the different qualities of the different metals used such as copper, zinc and aluminium.
Over this 5 weeks you will have time to develop an image or a series of images and create a body of prints. You will have time to push your practice in new directions and give you the time and space to explore new techniques with guidance and peer mentoring.
Each week we will explore a new technique whilst developing a series of works. As we get to know each other, there will also be time for group discussions and crits.
Suitable for all levels. This course will have a more collaborative, meandering style where we learn from each other as well as the tutor so that all levels feel supported in their creative exploration.
We will provide inks and aprons, a selection of paper will be provided at the start of the course but as we progress you will be asked to bring additional paper or buy sheets from us when needed.
What to bring with you
Please bring with you clothes that you don’t mind getting messy. Although we will be using water based inks and aprons will be provided, it’s best to not wear precious clothes.
Ideas - Throughout the course we encourage you to continue researching and compiling ideas for each session. If you don’t bring any ideas or inspiration for each session don’t worry because we have lots of inspirational books and ideas we use as tools for developing an image.
Sketchbooks and pens/pencils - or any materials you like to use for making your artwork. This course is all about experimentation so somewhere to take notes, tape in practice prints, sketch out ideas and write down reflections would be a good way to develop your practice and create a resource for yourself when the course is finished.
Packed lunch - Tea and coffee is provided. Bring your own packed lunch or eat at one of the independent local cafes and bakeries.
What you’ll leave with at the end of the course
A small booklet of the process including key words and techniques
A vast range of edition(s) of your prints using different techniques
We encourage you to bring a sketchbook, scrapbook or notebook so you can fill it with reflections, practice prints, technique experimentation, process notes and anything else you learn on the course so that you leave with a resource that is tailored to your artistic learning style.
For this course to run we need a minimum of 3 sign ups. If you book but we fail to reach this number we will review the course and reschedule or cancel. If we cancel or you can’t make the new dates, a full refund will be provided.

We reserve the right to cancel or postpone a workshop. If we do this we will try and give a weeks notice and will provide a full refund if you cannot attend the new dates.
