For participants to gain a basic understanding and practical knowledge of how to etch and print a copper plate.

Schedule for the day

10.00 to 10.30

Short tour of the studio,

Introductions and discuss the plan for the day, talking about the history of etching and looking at examples of etchings in books,

Talk over the process of getting the plate ready for etching and how printing an etching works.

10.30 to 12.00

Prepare plates for etching and draw on to plate.

12:00-13:00

Lunch

13.00 to 16.00

Etch the plate and get paper ready for printing. Print editions.

What to bring with you

Ideas - Please bring with you an image or art work you would like to use as inspiration or to transfer to your copper printing plate. The size of the plates we will be using will be approx 20cm x 15cm. If you don’t bring an idea or inspiration for your print don’t worry because we have lots of inspirational books and ideas we use as tools for developing an image. But as we have a lot to fit in on the day, it can help to bring along a pre conceived image to make into a print. 

Packed lunch - Tea and coffee is provided. Bring your own packed lunch or eat at one of the independent local cafes and bakeries.

What you’ll leave with at the end of the day

Cancellation Policy

If you cancel your booking more than3 weeks in advance we will provide a refund but it would be much better for our small business if you transfer your booking or accept a credit note. To cancel or transfer please email us at marketplaceprintstudio@gmail.com.

If you need to cancel your booking less that 3 weeks in advance we can only refund or transfer your booking in extenuating circumstances. Email us at marketplaceprintstudio@gmail.com to have a discussion about cancelling due to changes of plan out of your control.

If you let us know the day before or on the day of your booking that you can’t make it due to sickness or unexpected circumstances we can provide a credit note only or someone else can come in your place. Just drop us an email to let us know so we can update the booking information.

We reserve the right to cancel or postpone a workshop. If we do this we will try and give a weeks notice and will provide a full refund if you cannot attend the new dates.

Please note: The print studio has limited access and etching involves using hazardous chemicals. The print room environment is not suitable for everyone. Etching classes are unsuitable for pregnant or breastfeeding women, those sensitive to chemicals or with breathing difficulties. Contact us if you need more information about the chemicals we use as part of the printing process.
