Using the architecture and landscape of Cockermouth as inspiration we will design and carve a scene in lino. You will learn how transfer an image to the block, carve it out using specialist tools, inking up the block and printing editions using the printing press. We will discuss composition and mark making to create tone, space and light.

We will be working from photographs and you are encouraged to bring along your own drawings and photos of Cockermouth to use as inspiration too.

What to bring with you

Ideas - please do bring along any drawings or photos of Cockermouth that you’d like to work from. If you don’t manage this, we will have images to work from too.

Packed lunch - Tea and coffee is provided whilst we’re at the studio but bring a flask for the outdoor portion of the day. Bring your own packed lunch or eat at one of the independent local cafes and bakeries.

What you’ll leave with at the end of the course

Edition(s) of your print
