Open Access is for printmakers to use the facilities to develop their own personal artwork or projects without tuition. Before buying here, you must confirm a time slot using the booking form on our Open Access page. Adequate printmaking experience and knowledge is a must to use the studio in this way. We have a large printing press (approx 60cm x 120xm) that can print etchings, linocuts, woodblocks and monoprint. We have a hotplate and etching baths for copper (ferric chloride) or zinc (copper sulphate). You could also use the space to carve lino or wood.

The studio can also be used for other creative projects so please email us if you have a project you would like to develop in a reflective, creative work environment.

3 hours (half day) is £15

You can book 10 sessions to get one free too.

What to bring with you

  • Please bring your own inks and papers (we will have some paper available to purchase if you need, otherwise our local Cockermouth Art & Craft shop can also provide materials),

  • We will provide tissue and newsprint,

  • Clothes that you don’t mind getting ink on. Although we will be using water based inks and we have aprons, it’s best to wear clothes that are not precious.

  • Packed lunch - Tea and coffee is provided. Bring your own packed lunch or eat at one of the independent local cafes and bakeries.

Cancellation Policy

If you cancel your booking more than 3 weeks in advance we will provide a refund but it would be much better for our small business if you transfer your booking or accept a credit note. To cancel or transfer please email us at marketplaceprintstudio@gmail.com.

If you need to cancel your booking less that 3 weeks in advance we can only refund or transfer your booking in extenuating circumstances. Email us at marketplaceprintstudio@gmail.com to have a discussion about cancelling due to changes of plan out of your control.

If you let us know the day before or on the day of your booking that you can’t make it due to sickness or unexpected circumstances we can provide a credit note only or someone else can come in your place. Just drop us an email to let us know so we can update the booking information.

We reserve the right to cancel or postpone a workshop. If we do this we will try and give a weeks notice and will provide a full refund if you cannot attend the new dates.

Please note: The print studio has limited access and etching involves using hazardous chemicals. The print room environment is not suitable for everyone. Etching classes are unsuitable for pregnant or breastfeeding women, those sensitive to chemicals or with breathing difficulties. Contact us if you need more information about the chemicals we use as part of the printing process.
