open art ~ a circle for exploring self doubt and perfectionism

£8.00

Dates and timings to be announced.

Join Milly and Emily at Market Place Print Studio for the open art circle for those wanting to bring more awareness to self-doubt and perfectionism within their creative practices and projects. Creativity is within all of us, but we often feel held back by our own judgements and a want to make something “perfect”. Sometimes we don’t even try because we are afraid of failing. It may be that you feel mostly confident about your creativity but there are certain patterns you want to bring awareness to or perhaps there’s a lesser trodden path you want to take but would like the support of community…

What is open art?

open art offers a space for creativity without judgement. To explore our resistances with kindness and curiosity; to embrace them as part of the process. To allow ourselves to make imperfect art. We will listen to each other, ground with simple mindfulness practices and share our thoughts and feelings about whatever is coming up for us in relation to our creativity (if you feel you want to).

During open art circles we may offer activities to help us get curious about any resistance we feel to creating, in others we may ponder a piece of poetry or text to start a discussion on themes such as self-doubt, perfectionism, creativity and inspiration. You are invited to bring your own projects that you want to discuss too. You are welcome to spend the whole duration of circle doodling, collaging, painting, listening, sharing…there are no rules. Come as you are.

What are the values of open art?

open art aims to foster a collaborative and compassionate style where no one person is “teacher”, instead we learn from each other through listening and sharing. That said, there is no pressure to share deeply or at all ~ all those in circle will have choice over how they participate and are encourage to feel into their own sense of agency. Milly and Emily’s hope is that open art will be attended by regular members who help shape the circle and it’s values.

What you could bring with you

Some artwork your working on or an idea of something you’d like to work on - if you feel you want to, you can share this with the group and speak about anything you’re finding tricky about the idea/piece of art.

Inspirations - bring along your sketchbook or any inspirations. Even if we don’t share these or speak about them, you never know what conversations may spark an idea and it’s nice to keep your inspirations close to you.

Materials - please bring any materials you desire. You are welcome to spend the whole circle doodling, collaging, painting, listening, sharing…there are no rules. Come as you are.

Snacks + drinks - Feel free to bring snacks and drinks with you.

Cancellation Policy
