Flower Fountain Cushion 24 x 24" - Block Printed by hand - Naturally dyed fabric
Block printed, naturally dyed cushions made by Emily Fairlie Baker at Market Place Print Studio, Cockermouth.
This cushion features the flower fountain block on raw organic cotton naturally dyed with onion skins. The cushion is 24 × 24” and the insert is made of sustainable British sheep’s wool. The back of the cushion is made of fabric dyed with onion skins and iron.
Emily makes small batches of textiles each season. Here is her 2026 Autumn batch of cushions. Each stamp block has been carved by Emily from her own designs, inked up with soil association certified inks and then stamped onto the fabric by hand. The cotton fabric has undergone the lengthy and alchemical process of being naturally dyed with plants such as Madder root, Onion Skins, Iron and Cutch. Each cushion is handmade and one of a kind.
If you’d like to learn the block printing process yourself, browse our workshops and choose any Block Printing session.
Colours may vary ever so slightly from the photographs, we suggest seeing them in person before buying in the studio if you can. Imperfections from hand printing and natural dyeing are a beautiful and expected part of these processes ~ we hope you enjoy the beauty of this as much as we do.
The wool cushion insert are handmade to order in Sussex using sustainable British sheep’s wool.
Care instructions
The inks have been set with an iron and the naturally dyed fabrics have undergone a lengthy process to ensure the dye is as wash and light fast as any synthetic dye. That said, all fabric benefits from as little washing as possible so spot clean when you can. If you do need to wash your cushion, remove the cushion cover and wash by hand or at maximum 30° degrees using a gentle laundry liquid such as Ecoleaf or Miniml. Keep out of direct sunlight if possible because this will decrease the chances of fading of any soft furnishings.
